Langtang Region
The closest Himalayan region to Kathmandu is Langtang. This is also one of the untouched areas of Nepal. Devastated after the 2015 earthquake, Langtang has been rebuilt by its residents and is ready to welcome trekkers.
Langtang is located in the northern part of Nepal. The high Langtang massifs separate the border between China and Nepal. Sheltered underneath is a group of serene lakes such as Gosainkunda. With communities preserving their culture and tradition until this date, Langtang is also a top destination to experience the cultural exposure of the rural communities of Nepal.
The lowlands of this region are populated by a majority of people of the Tamang tribe and depict significant influence from Tibetan society. Their cultural and religious aspects are reflected by the prayer flags, Mani walls (walls made of stones inscribed with a Lamaist prayer), shortens (a Buddhist shrine, typically a saint's tomb or a monument to the Buddha), and monasteries. The locally-made cheese here is renowned for its unique taste. The blend of natural and cultural beauty, along with the off-beaten trails, makes this region one of the best trekking destinations in Nepal.
Although the trekking infrastructures here are not as developed as the Everest or Annapurna region, the beautiful features of this region offer a great adventure. Langtang National Park covers most of the Langtang region. Occupied by colorful forests of bamboo and rhododendrons, the woods here provide a habitat for a variety of animals and birds. One rare dominant species to see here is the red panda.
The major highlight of this region is the high passes, tranquil lakes, and snow-clad peaks. Trekking routes often include high passes where trekkers can witness amazing views of the entire region. With high religious values, pilgrims around the globe undertake a journey to visit these lakes. Throughout the whole course of the trip, you will see the Langtang Lirung peak dominating the skyline. The beautiful ranges of snow-clad peaks of Langtang decorate the horizon for a spectacular view.
The stunning region of Langtang is a splendid trekking choice. A few popular treks for Langtang are: the Langtang Valley trek, Langtang Gosaikunda trek, Bhairav Kunda trek, and Helambu trek. You can also go on the Langtang Lirung expedition, and Helambu Expedition, or climb other mountains if you have the skills and experiences that are required. You can have an outstanding experience of peak climbing on some incredible peaks of Langtang, such as Yala peak, Langshisha Ri peak, and Paldor peak.
The best time to go trekking in Langtang is spring (March to May) and autumn (August to November). These seasons offer clear weather and comparatively warmer temperatures. This makes up for a pleasant trekking atmosphere. The trails are dry and walking is more relaxed and safe. Summer, which includes monsoons, and winter have the highest rate of precipitation with a substantial amount of rain and snow. Thus, trekking is very challenging during these seasons.
