Kalinchowk is located on the hilly eastern side of Nepal in the Dolakha district. The famous Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple, located at the top of a hill at 3,842m, is a renowned temple where thousands of Hindu devotees travel to worship every year and belongs to the goddess Bhagwati. Besides its religious significance, Kalinchowk also offers stunning views of the Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang ranges. The trek takes you through various settlements where you meet people from different cultures and castes such as Sherpa, Tamang, Brahmin, and Chhetris. This route leads you along the Gaurishankar Conservation Area where you can enjoy the rich flora and fauna in the colorful forests of rhododendrons, bamboo, and oaks.
The Dolakha Kalinchowk trek is a 4-day trek. Foreigners will need a TIMS card for their safety during the trek. The difficulty level for this trek is moderate. The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Charikot, which takes you through diverse landscapes such as hills, forests, and rivers. As you arrive in Charikot, you may head to Kuri the same day or opt to stay in Charikot from where you will head out to Kuri early in the morning the following day. The village of Kuri is located at 3,450m and takes about 3-4 hours to reach. The route passes through various terraced farms, forests, and small villages while the mountains stand tall, posing for a great view.
On the next day, you start hiking early in the morning to see the sunrise from the hilltop. As you reach the Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple, a fantastic panoramic view of the sun-kissed Himalayas awaits you. You can also choose to take a cable car trip to the hilltop from Kuri.
